India Carries out High Altitude Exercise Focused on China

The Shatrujeet Brigade of the Indian Army conducted an airborne insertion along the northern borders in eastern Ladakh to validate its Rapid Response Capabilities, as part of an airborne exercise and combat manoeuvres.

On Nov. 1, the airborne troops were inserted to a Drop Zone at an altitude of more than 14,000 feet, according to Indian Army officers, with direct knowledge of the exercise.

Pre-acclimatised troops along with specialist vehicles and missile detachments were transported by Indian Air Force's C-130 and AN-32 aircraft from five different mounting bases to validate inter-theatre move, precision stand-off drops, rapid grouping and capture of designated objs with speed & surprise.

The drop was particularly challenging due to the low temperatures of upto minus 20 degrees and rarefied atmosphere in super high altitude terrain, the officers said, asking for anonymity, as the information was not public yet.

The exercise also involves conduct of Oxygen Combat Free Fall jumps and integrated battle drills by airborne forces, mechanised columns and attack helicopters, validating capabilities and seamless integration.

The airborne insertion exercise which was in progress in Eastern Ladakh concluded on Nov. 3.

Pre-acclimatised troops, after insertion to a Drop Zone located in super high altitude, validated joint drills for capture of designated objectives. Multi Domain convergence was achieved during the exercise when airborne troops utilised Attack Helicopters for precision engagement and destruction of enemy forces.
