India - China: Chances of a Border flare-up increase

As the deadlock continues, Indian troops took an aggressive role, resulting in a tense situation that many believe, could get out of control. India’s says these measures were taken  in view of China's fresh attempts to change status quo along the southern bank of Pangong lake. The situation however, is volatile with troops and heavy armour within firing range of each other.  The study examines underscores the divergent statements by the armies and foreign offices of the two countries; fear of military escalation; who violated ‘agreements and understandings’; the way forward; and India’s ‘deterrence by punishment’ plan.
