US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken, on a two day visit to India in July, had substantive discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. There was much common ground but India did not feel reassured on Afghanistan. The study mentions a view that India is on its own in Afghanistan in view of US dependence on Pakistan; on China too Blinken left India in a quandary despite his meeting with Tibetans; Blinken was however, soft on ‘democratic backslide’ in India; and did not lecture on human rights;
